Did you know what content syndication is?
If not, please read further. If you do know what content syndication is you can skip this step.
What Is Content Syndication?
Content syndication is the practice to syndicate your content on sites with higher domain authority (DA) than yours.
In simple words, you post content on bigger websites where the chances of getting your content rank on the SERPs increase.
This is something like guest posting but in a different way.
When you write a guest post, you try hard to find the best keywords and write the best piece around those keywords. This is completely different from content syndication, where you don’t have to write any new content but any blog post of your website gets syndicated on other websites.
That means content syndication is easier as compared to guest posting.
But, not really because content syndication comes with its fears like the penalty of duplicate content.
Is Content Syndication Safe For SEO?
Yes, it is. If it was not safe for SEO, no one would be doing it.
So, let’s go back to the first heading. I said that Neil got around 9K+ people to his blog just by sharing his blog on other websites.
But I didn’t share that he also lost a ton of organic traffic that month.
Don’t panic! It was way back. Things have changed. Search engines are getting smarter day by day. And ranking your content is getting harder and harder.
So, it’s completely normal to syndicate content and nobody seems to get penalized now-a-days for duplicate content.
Search engines have declared that content syndication is “OK” as long as you do it safely. According to Hubspot.
And when you’re starting, it’s essential to build traffic and connect with your targeted audience. While starting you should only focus on bringing lots of traffic to your blog.
Disadvantages Of Content Syndication
Just like everything in this world, content syndication also has some disadvantages like:
- Getting outranked by your bigger websites.
- Losing backlinks.
- Getting penalized for duplicate content.
Ok, the first is something that a new blog wouldn’t care about. Because you syndicate content to get more exposure and get your content in front of new pairs of eyes.
So, it’s not something that you should be worried about. Because we all know new blogs don’t rank that easily. So, getting outranked for your advantage is not bad, is it?
The second one is critical. Look, when you syndicate your content on bigger websites, people see your content there and link back to it.
People would be linking to your content but not on your website.
That means you would be losing a handful of backlinks.
The third one is also critical
Should you try content syndication?
Yes, you should. Undoubtedly backlinks are critical in the long run but so is the blog’s traffic. If syndicating your content can get you a lot of new visitors you should try it.

Bigger Websites In Your Niche
I saved this one for the last, you know why? Because all the options above are up to you. You just create a free account and get the ball rolling.
This one is a bit different. Because to get your content syndicated by bigger websites in your niche you would have to convince their editors.
Usually, you send them an email with all the information about your article and sometimes they can ask you for some dollars in return.
Look at the email James sent to Lifehacker that returned him, 600 subscribers.
Another advantage you would have by posting it on bigger sites is you won’t have to start from scratch. I mean (most probably) your first post won’t rank on search engines if you’re using any of the free options above.
But if you’re using bigger sites than yours for content syndication, your content will start showing up on the search results in no time.
Wrapping It Up
If you want to maximize traffic with content syndication don’t just start copy pasting your content on every site stated above but try a couple of sites first and master them.
Don’t forget to link to your older content on all the platforms. Internal linking is one of the easiest ways to increase your website traffic.
Please try this method for at least 2-4 months for maximum traffic.
